Lenovo’s new gaming console – the eBox

According to WSJ, Lenovo has confirmed that it is entering the Video Game Console market. Lenovo will work with Beijing Eedoo Technology Ltd to create a new gaming console called eBox.

Based on the image below (credit: eedoo), the gaming console looks like it will function like the Microsoft Kinect and will work without controllers. The eBox is scheduled to release in China by the end of the year and since the Xbox and the PlayStation are banned in China, Lenovo should make a killing selling this product to over 80 million homes in Urban China.

Emotiv EPOC gaming headset aims to abolish keyboards

Emotiv Systems, based out of Australia, develops brain–computer interfaces based on the electroencephalography (EEG) technology. Their latest and only product is the Emotiv EPOC peripheral for gaming on Windows PCs. Emotiv Systems claims that this gaming headset will make it possible for games to be controlled by the player’s mind, and facial expressions. The gaming peripheral must first be trained to recognize what kind of thought pattern equates to a certain action. It can measure four categories of inputs: Conscious thoughts (Cognitiv suite), Emotions (Affectiv suite), Facial expressions (Expressiv suite), Head rotation.

The main features of the gaming device are:

  • 14 saline sensors offer optimal positioning for accurate spatial resolution
  • Gyroscope generates optimal positional information for cursor and camera controls
  • Hi-performance wireless gives users total range of motion
  • Dongle is USB compatible and requires no custom drivers
  • Lithium Battery provides 12 hours of continuous use
